VIDEO: YSL’s Baby Doll Mascara video with makeup by Lloyd Simmonds.
Canadian born makeup artist, Lloyd Simmonds, has been doing makeup across the globe for over 20 years.
He began his career in Milan, Italy, as one the youngest makeup artists ever to grace the pages of Italian Vogue. While in Milan, he began to create runway looks for Italian-based fashion houses and his work caught the eye of makeup guru, Pat McGrath.
By 2002, Lloyd was heading up McGrath's creative team for the shows, helping her design the looks for many of her clients, including Christian Dior, Valentino, Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, D&G, Bottega Veneta, Miu Miu, Victor & Rolf, Vuitton, Comme des Garcons, Lanvin, Balenciaga, John Galliano and others. Lloyd credits McGrath for his impeccable training.
Striking out more visibly on his own in 2005, Lloyd 's work began to appear in the best editorial publications around the world; he contributes regularly to Vogue Paris, Japanese Vogue, Chinese Vogue, Teen Vogue, Interview, Numero, Elle and most recently to Allure magazine. Lloyd is especially sought after for his beauty work - the looks he creates always begin with flawless skin and often end with a surprise of color.
His trademark innovations are why designers continuously seek out his expertise. He now leads his own shows on the runway; this past season, he has led teams for MAC cosmetics on shows like Vena Cava and Jen Kao in NYC and for Blumarine in Milan. His recent campaigns include Clarins, L'Oreal and Thierry Mugler, as well as a for a new line from Bourgois, coming in 2010. He has also done makeup this past season for fashion campaigns like Hermes and Isetan.
Lloyd currently splits his time between New York & Paris.
